Refuge is the soulful and soothing debut EP of Quebec singer Geneviève Bourgault.

Released in February 2015, it recount’s Bourgault’s memories of time spent with family by the river and around the campfire. Her calming voice is complemented by the compositions of musician Grégoire Painchaud, who is fittingly Bourgault’s life partner.

Some songs are folk-country ballads, in which Bourgault draws the listener in with her light, almost mystical voice. Others are more playful, with country-pop twang and toe-tapping rhythm. All emit the warmth and sentiment of life in the French-Canadian countryside – life that is contemplative yet comfortable. Even to a non-French listener, Refuge offers a gentle and reflective escape.

The running order for the EP is as follows:

SUR LA MAPPE
REFUGE
LE CHIEN S’ENNUIE
POUR UN MOMENT
ÊTRE UNE ÉTOILE
AUTOMNE

Refuge by Geneviève Bourgault is priced $8 and is available where all good music is sold.
